Role Summary

Severn Trent Green Power operates a First and Second Lines of Defence compliance model. Whilst both teams work collaboratively, this role sits within the Compliance Assurance Team, the independent Second Line, overseeing compliance through the auditing and assurance of the operational teams and support functions across the business.

The purpose of the Compliance Assurance Officer is to work in line with the company’s compliance framework, through the preparation, auditing and oversight of operational and support functions across STGP.

As a Compliance Assurance Officer, you will apply a risk based approach, you will prepare audit documentation, in accordance with the assurance plan or as requested adhoc investigations, identifying and understanding relevant legislation and regulations, assess policies and company documentation and through the auditing of site and functional areas, you will provide an evaluation of compliance, ensuring site and business protocols are followed and audit trails are complete. You will undertake regular audit reviews of all aspects of regulatory compliance and health and safety requirements, reporting findings and outcomes. You will follow up on any outstanding requirements and work with respective teams to provide advice on regulatory requirements. You will support the preparation of external audit activity by industry regulators and cover the close-out of actions. You will be responsible for the auditing and assurance reviews of compliance requirements both through attendance at operational sites, head office and through Teams meetings with colleagues.


Key Responsibilities

  • Build an effective working knowledge of industry regulations, including DSEAR, Animal By-Product Regulation, PAS 100/110, Environmental Protection Act
  • Prepare audit requirements and documentation, working in collaboration with the Compliance Governance Manager, identifying and understanding relevant legislation, regulations and STGP procedures as required to demonstrate an evaluation of compliance.
  • Undertake regulatory compliance, GDPR, H&S and ISO internal audits as required by STGP’s Integrated Management system, assessing operational and support function practices, capture evidence, report on findings and communicating any required follow-up actions.
  • Communicate effectively with Operational Site Leads and Function Leads to share the compliance outcomes and agree action plans and completion dates to drive compliant solutions.
  • Review operational risks and controls, reporting outcomes and supporting business stakeholders to agree action plans to remove or reduce risks.
  • Support the maintenance of the Risk and Controls Matrix, updating controls and evaluating risk scores to determine level of risk.
  • Support external audit preparation and activities where required.
  • Assist Site Leads with understanding regulatory, H&S and procedural changes.
  • Deliver Toolbox Talks relating to H&S Standards and Emergency Scenarios to Site/Functions Leads.
  • Complete Health and Safety audits as required in line with the Compliance Audit Plan.
  • Attend Site locations, Head office and meetings through Teams as necessary to successfully complete regulatory audits engaging with key Operational Site and Functions Leads, managing ongoing dialogue and keeping up-to-date with ongoing day-to-day site activities.
  • Undertake any adhoc investigations, data reviews or project activities as required by your line manager.

Key Requirements

  • Experience of working with Integrated Management System (ISO).
  • Experience of working in regulated industry preferred, ideally in compliance audit-based role.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Strong data analytical aptitude, quality review capability, and ability to convey complex information articulately.
  • Outstanding attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise in a fast paced working environment.
  • Ability to drive compliance requirements and achieve objectives.
  • Excellent IT Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Positive and professional work ethic.
  • NEBOSH would be advantageous.
