Location: Wallingford, Oxon, OX10 6SQ

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £32,500 per annum

Hours: 45 hours per week

Role-specific Benefits: Overtime, Annual Performance Bonus

Role Summary

The purpose of the Green Waste Operative is to operate a wide range of mobile and static plant machinery at various sites in the receipt, processing of incoming waste and exit and spreading of the end product as directed by the Green Waste Manager. You will also hold collective and individual site responsibility for ensuring daily tasks are completed to ensure the site compliance to PAS100 and ISO standards, permit requirements and a safe and environmentally compliance working environment. This will include machinery maintenance and compliance to the site procedures and systems of work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operation and maintenance of site and mobile equipment compliant with all relevant legislation and instructions/procedures give
  • The receiving, weighing, un-loading, sorting and then overall operation of the composting process to PAS100 standards
  • Compliance with the Environmental Permit (Site Licence) ABPR, PAS 100, BMS and the Health and Safety and Welfare of all people on site
  • Maintenance of the plant and equipment ensuring daily weekly monthly checks are completed
  • Ensure that the plant operates efficiently and effectively, meeting all throughput requirements
  • Following all Health and Safety process and safe systems of work
  • Keeping required records, in respect of all compliance, operations, maintenance and procedures
  • Understanding the varied aspects to the role and being part of a team

Key Requirements

  • Loading Shovel certificate or proven capability
  • Knowledge of composting & environmental process
  • Knowledge of working safely, including fire safety
  • Worked within a Management System
  • Shredder/Screen experience*
  • 1st Aid an advantage
  • Relevant Pesticide certificate (PA1;PA9;PA6) an advantage
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Computer literate
  • Agricultural background desirable
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and manual labour as required
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment used in waste management operations
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
  • Excellent organizational skills to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Good communication skills to work as part of a team
