Location: Flexible - dependent on home base

Contract: Permanent Full Time

Salary: Competitive Salary + Car Allowance

Role Summary

The purpose of the Senior Strategist is to help us achieve our vision and shape our future growth trajectory. The role will encompass influencing and developing innovative approaches for strategic business needs, scouting for external partnership opportunities, producing financial models, performing market analysis and supporting the optimization or troubleshooting of existing assets.

The Senior Strategist will be a critical member of the Severn Trent Strategy and Development team, with full responsibility and freedom for injecting new and different ways of thinking and making our growth plans a reality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working closely with senior leadership team to influence and develop innovative approaches relating to strategic business needs and creating corresponding strategy papers.
  • Scout for and secure opportunities for external partnerships and other innovation opportunities.
  • Producing financial models and business cases to develop opportunities for growth and/or reduction in carbon footprint
  • Management of strategic projects from concept through to delivery and take a lead in the consideration of process optimisation and resilience. Ensure that consultants and contractors fully consider requirements for commissioning and future operation.
  • Performing market analysis and keeping pace with external market policy including relevant renewables incentive schemes.
  • Engaging with a range of stakeholders to respond to relevant government and industry consultations and providing feedback and insight to the business.
  • Undergo site and data-based analysis to support optimisation or troubleshooting of existing assets.
  • Analysing data and preparing visual outputs of results in an engaging and meaningful way.

Key Requirements


  • Graduate level
  • Working knowledge of various renewable technologies, including AD, CHP, Wind, BGTG and Solar
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Willingness to travel
  • Strong analytical approach and a high level of competency in Excel.
  • Passion for sustainability and the environment.
  • Be resilient, confident, enthusiastic, and influential.
  • Motivated to fully own delivery of concrete growth projects and operational optimisation


  • Deep understanding and experience of Anaerobic Digestion
  • Knowledge of green gas incentive schemes such as RHI, FiT, ROC and RTFC
  • Experience producing financial models and business case writing
  • Experience working within carbon accounting or environmental sustainability
  • Experience in commissioning new assets, evaluating their performance and impact on upstream and downstream processes
  • Ability to read P&ID’s and layout drawing
  • Able to identify & evaluate opportunities leading to successful projects
