Recycle Week 2020 - Thanking our front line workers
This week is Recycle Week - an annual celebration of recycling now in its 17th year. As part of this, we wanted to recognise the key workers who enabled our business to continue to supply more than 50 local authorities with a home for food and garden waste during this extraordinary year.
Between April and July 2020, with the country in lockdown, domestic food waste increased by around 17% and our operational teams went the extra mile – recycling 126,000 tonnes of food waste, producing the same quantity of liquid fertiliser; and 50,000MWh of electricity – which is enough to power 11,900 homes.
During the same period, our compost sites recycled 17,000 tonnes of garden waste, producing around 8,500 tonnes of compost.
To thank and acknowledge their hard work, our Commercial Team released a short video.
Great work guys!
