ST Green Power highly commended in 2 categories at AD and Biogas Industry awards 2019

We’re delighted to have received recognition as “highly commended” for entries in 2 awards categories at this year’s AD and Biogas Industry awards.

ST Green Power highly commended in 2 categories at AD and Biogas Industry awards 2019

Jointly organized by the UK Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA) and the World Biogas Association (WBA), the 2019 Awards competition recognized companies and people from around the world across 14 categories – ranging from Clever Use of Outputs to Best R&D Innovation, Most Circular City, AD Hero of the Year and International Knowledge & Collaboration.

Over 400 guests attended the black-tie gala dinner hosted by BBC Reporter and Eco-adventurer Andy Pag, who revealed the winners and highly-commended entries.

ADBA Chief Executive Charlotte Morton, said, “Congratulations to tonight’s awards winners and highly commended organizations and individuals. They are the proof, alongside all those who entered this year’s competition, that we can be a world-beating sector. Our thanks go to them all.”

Our Highly Commended entries 2019 were:

  1. The newest addition to our AD family; Derby AD facility was highly commended for “Best R&D Innovation”

Derby is the latest in our network of AD plants. It features an industry first Thermal Pressure Hydrolysis technology capable of treating Category 2 & 3 Animal By-Products plus other categories of food waste.

This is the first example of attempting to commercially develop the Thermo-pressure Hydrolysis process for use in processing food waste.

The TPH approach represents a significant innovation that increases the range of organic feedstock available to biogas plants, significantly increases methane capture yields and decreases retention time. This technology could make a significant contribution to decarbonising heat and transport in the UK. With biogas having been identified as a key area for development and as a sustainable method of decarbonising heating and transport networks this technology has the potential to greatly increase the capacity and bandwidth of the biogas industry by allowing untapped waste streams to be recycled into biogas and expanding the total biogas capacity of the market.
  2. North London AD Facility, which has already been awarded AD Facility of the year (2018) by ADBA, was highly commended as “Best Biogas Plant equal to or above 1MWe-equivalent

This plant, based in London Colney, St Albans is one of the most advanced Food Waste recycling facilities in the UK, it won Best Food Waste AD Plant in 2018 and we think it’s still the best.

This facility was constructed in a record-breaking 9 months and has been used to demonstrate “Best Available Technology” to key UK governing bodies.

Last year it achieved 99.3% electrical efficiency and so far in 2019, it has run at 99.6%, just 0.1% below the maximum possible output (considering ‘down time’ for maintenance etc). It recently celebrated a 45-day run of 100% power production from both CHP engines. It has an exceptionally high biogas yield per tonne of food waste input into the process, has always been available for waste receipt and consistently achieves industry-leading turnaround times and site cleanliness standards.

We pass huge congratulations to the winners and participants of all of the categories. A truly inspirational and forward-thinking group of businesses which we are, as ever, honoured to be considered a part of. Thank you ADBA for another great evening.
